No. Check The Dose is designed to work offline. It only needs access when signing into the app for the first time. At that point it will download all of the data it needs directly to your phone. So if you are in a place with no cell reception and you need to look up a dose or verify a treatment you can. It will periodically attempt to contact the server to stay up to date. If no contact it made the app will show the most recent information that is stored on the mobile device.

Mobile Application Features
This is a simple way to verify your drip rates. All you do is tap the “Tap” button every time a drop falls from the drip set. The number then shows you how many drops per minute you giving.
Everything! All medications will be shown for the selected Weight/Age you chose as well as all Drip Medications and Equipment.
Rather than list every medication the Treatments button filters out only the medications/Drips/equipment you may need for that specific treatment.
Some illnesses/injuries require multiple treatments. Rather than hunt for all the treatments you can build a treatment group. It will list what ever treatments you want it to show. For example a severe crush injury might need treatments for the actual crush injury, pain, hyperkalemia, cardiogenic shock and fluid. These are all individual treatments. But with treatment groups you can group them to get for one Illness/Injury.
Many EMS agencies provide their providers Checklists to use to aid in treatment of their patients. Many times they provide printouts or pocket guides. These become obsolete if any kind of change is needed. Or they get destroyed in the washing machine as the provider left it in their pocket. Check The Dose has solved this issue by providing a way for the Administrator to simply upload the Checklist(s) in PDF form to the website and assign them to specific treatments IF they have one. The provider can now either view all of the Checklist by selecting the Checklist button from the homescreen and then selecting the Checklist they want to view. Or, if the Checklist was assigned a treatment, after selecting the treatment they can press the Checklist button and that specific Checklist will come up.
References are anything that you may want your providers to have reference too. SOGs or SOPs, reminders on what specific EKG interpretations, a running list of blood thinners, etc. It is a place for you to upload any PDF you would like your providers to have as reference. You can categorize them into the group names of your choice. What makes these different from the Checklist is that it cannot be assigned to a treatment.
Yes. We will help you get them uploaded and assigned to specific Treatments and Medications. Similar to Checklists, when you are in a treatment if you select the Protocols button you will be shown that protocol. If you are viewing a specific medication and select the Protocol button you will view that specific medication in your protocols – as long as you have assigned them. From the Home screen you will be able to scroll through all of the protocols.
Age estimations are based on two formulas. From 1-12 months we used the New APLS Formula of Weight= Months / 2 + 4 From 1-10 Years we used the Luscombe Formula of Weight= Years x 3 +7
Yes. Our Length Based Tape is uses data from the CDC National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Currently our tapes are based off the most recent data from 2015-2016 Data.
a. Yes. We use industry standard color coding for the designated weights. All Length based tapes provide an estimation, but it is always best to use actual weight. However, this is not always possible, so an estimation must be made.
You may need to switch to small screen mode. Go to the home screen and select the Settings button. Toggle the Small Screen mode on. Go all the way back to the home screen and then select the Medication and Treatment tab. You should now view the grid in a different format that will show all the data.
After selecting the appropriate weight, you can now edit the age. Simply select the Edit Age button and use the slider to select the appropriate age. You will see the age change but not the weight. Now Check The Dose Logic will show you the available treatments for that age, but dose them at the appropriate weight.

The Prehospital setting can be anywhere. Having the ability to contact whomever you may need and to be sure you have the right number is important. Do you have the right number for the hospital you are transporting to? As long as the administrator keeps the database up to date you will always have the right number. Addresses, Door Codes to the Emergency Room. You can also create any category you may want. Other Fire Department Contacts, Resources you may need while out in the field. Your own department contacts. Whatever numbers you might think you need.
Yes. Check The Dose has logic built into it to allow you to specify Mins and Max’s based on Age, Weight, and Dose. If a medication is showing for an age that it shouldn’t be make sure the administrator checks the database. It may be that the minimum age was not entered for that specific treatment. If it all looks correct please contact CTD and we will help sort it out.
The Administrator can assign a Medication to as many Treatments as needed. If the Dose is the same for multiple treatments then the App Grid will show one entry. There is no need to know all the treatments because the dose is the same. If the dose is different for the treatments then the Logic of the program will show the different doses and show the Treatment Labels. This way you know which Dose is for which Treatment.
Every Treatment has what is called a Custom Label. This is a place for you to label the Medication Dose with anything you’d like. If there is a Custom Label entry it will show in the App Grid it. If there is no entry it will show the Treatment Name. This means that you can create two Doses and specify something like “1st Dose” and “2nd Dose” in the Custom Label. There will then be 2 entries of that medication with each showing a Custom Label.
The data in the grid is all based on the numbers shown. If the Administrator has entered the correct medication concentration and dose then the numbers will be correct. The Dose and Volume are all based on the concentration that is listed. Be sure to verify that the vial you hold in your hand is the same concentration that is listed on the Data Grid. If it is not the same, then you cannot use the volume listed. The Dose, however, will still be correct. Be sure to contact the administrator to correct the concentration in the database.
